Dear class

Five chapters read - how will the story continue - are you as curious as I am?! Here are some questions collected by our expert group to keep in mind while reading.

How will the relation between father and son develop?
What do you think about the success of Dani's band?
Will love last between Dani and Alex?
Where will Alex travel next?

Are you happy and satisfied with writing posts and commenting on other students' ideas? Do you want to change anything to improve our interaction?

Chicaloca hat gesagt…: I think commenting our classmates is cool, we have a good feedback about our texts and opinions. The bad think is, in my opinion, that we always have too less time...okay, i admit it takes maybe 10 minutes to write a post, but there are always days you are not using your computer, and the next day you get the next homework for youre blog...

I know there are some students who didn't comment 3-5 posts a week... maybe a work into groups can help. I hope the situation will be develop better.

Perhaps we can get to know other charakters better in future..

Welcome

and Howdy - as the Aussie says. This blog shall help students from my ESL class to organise their reading process of THE AUSTRALIAN CONNECTION by Paul Stewart. With regard to their own reading experiences - they don't actually talk about what they read unless they're asked to do so in class - we have agreed on a new form of communication: Blogging. We very much hope that this will promote getting into contact, exchanging ideas and what is even more important, negotiating meaning - outside the classroom already. Still, every student is asked to take the responsibility for his or her own thoughts and ideas and be prepared to contribute to further topics dealt with in class effectively and successfully.

Wednesday, 5th December
Write a mini saga about chapter 9 & 10.
Monday, 3rd December
From now on you work in blog teams of five or six students. Read chapter 8. Which situation was most exciting or interesting? Give your opinion in about 3-5 sentences (ONLY). Then invite your blog team members (BTM) to give their opinion. You should go to all your BTM to say what you think about their findings.
Monday, 26th November
After reading chapter 7:
1. Comment on the following quote: "And, of course, Alex understood only too well." (p.43, l.33)
2. Write a different ending of the chapter: "That night, when Alex had gone to sleep, TOM picked up his diary and began writing." (compare p.43, l.34f)
Tuesday, 20th November
Obligatory
• Before you read the 6th chapter: Predict what Alex tells Tom when he meets him for the first time after 16 years?
• After you read the 6th chapter: What did Alex say? Were you right? Give evidence from the text. (quote!)
Optional
• Write an own stanza (Strophe) for “Jumpy” or “Earthquake”.
Monday, 19th November
Read chapter 5 and ask 3-5 questions on the text in your blog. (Don’t use any yes/no-questions!) Your classmates are supposed to answer them. And you go to three other blogs and answer the questions posted there.
After your classmates have answered your questions you write a post in which you briefly add your own ideas. Use discussion phrases!
Wed 14th November
Read the 4th chapter and write a new post.
Dani and Alex have their first disagreement. Why? What is it about? What is your opinion about it?
Tue 13th November
Comment on either topic (relation father - son, the book, the style of writing). Use at least 3-5 lead-ins.
Mon 5th November
What do you think about Alex' first 66 hours in Australia?
Tue 31st October
Read the 1st chapter. Carefully read the method sheet “How to keep your Weblog” – Write a post about your first impressions regarding the book.
